Hey Everyone,
So we have left the busy streets of Bangkok and we are now in Koh Samui and island in the South of Thailand. It is very nice here. We are no longer sweating bullets and there is a nice breeze. Although it is a bit overcast here, it is still very nice temperature-wise!!!! There is a beach less than 5 minutes away from us. It's basically our backyard with very swimmable water. No worries about the tides taking us away. No Costa Rica style waves.
Much love,
Minna :o)

I have sweated out my pee
Hello Everyone!
I hope you are doing well. I have safely made it to Thailand! It is strange to me that it is 7:35 PM here right now, and 8:35 AM in Michigan. I have literally lost a day through the time change, haha. Today was our first full day in Bangkok, and it was very busy.
We woke up and had a breakfast that consisted of fruit, tea, and toast. It was nom nom and completely free! Yay for free. Not that meals are expensive here 3 bucks is the most we have paid.
After breakfast we decided to make our way to the Grand Palace. Since it was hot as bollocks outside, we both wore shorts and t-shirts. As we were looking for the boat port a man came up to us and asked where we were going, after we told him, he told us to turn around and go home. What we were wearing was considered disrespectful to wear in the environment of the Grand Palace. This is completely understandable, but it is hard to be culturally competant when you are sweating bullets. So, we went home to change...when we walked out if was even HOTTER! The hottest of all the hots! No cloudy patches.
That's when the water drinking started....so much water...luckily it only costs about 35 cents for a bottle of water, so it's no big deal...I must have had about eight 500 mL bottles of water and only peed like once. My theory is that instead of peeing, I have been sweating so much that I don't have enough liquids in me to pee! hahahah. I would probably be bladder scanned in a hospital situation except nothing is there, since I sweated it all out. INSANE!
Anyway, the Grand Palace was an intricate masterpiece with gold everywhere. I'll put up pics later, on picasa of course.
After this we decided to walk around...we discovered that some people are just bastards. ESPECIALLY TUK TUK DRIVERS! One of them told us that since it was Friday it was a free day for tourists at some places to encourage more people learning about Thai culture. So, we picked a place we wanted to go to....NOT FREE! and we paid the fee to get there...ugh. haha. and it was underconstruction and not even worth going into, hahaha....oh my.
We did end up climbing to the top of this great temple though, with scary steep steps that if you tripped down would ensure you being either crippled or dead, but we both survived and it was fantastic.
We both had a yummy dinner. Speaking of dinner, I'm getting thirsty again! So, I'm going to drink more water. Delicious ice cold water. The kind that makes your mouth happy! Tomorrow we are going to the floating market, and it's about to be the bomb!!!!
Later,

GOTTA GET ME THE HECK UP OUT OF HERE!!!!
Hey Wonderful People!
The past week has gone by in a blur. I have moved out of the 824 back to my parents' house, taken an exam, and I'm completing my last shifts (hopefully) as a nurse aide this weekend. My room is currently filled with ghetto trash bags that I filled to the max to move out as quickly as possible. I must unpack and get slightly organized.
As most of you know, delaying reality and avoiding the real world is a great past time of mine. A random lunchtime conversation that occurred back in fall semester is the reason why I am not applying for jobs right now. Instead, I'm going to Asia for two months! YAY!
I spent my summer hustling for a dollar. I learned of the most unconventional ways to earn that cash kind of money! Psych experiments....oh my. Working at the Art Fair....really random stuff. I have two jars worth of change that I am going to put in the bank today. When going through "the times" (economical crisis, haha) every penny must be saved! And continuing on as a nurse aide, which can make anyone go slightly insane, haha. After busting ass and saving, I finally have enough (hopefully more than enough to live excellently and shower myself with massages in Asia)!
In five short days, I will begin my adventures with Nikki! Our first stop is Thailand. We have booked our first place to stay called Sam Sen Sam. It is 8 bucks a night. That just about made me scream and holler with joy.
Through the grapevine of some other travelers I have talked to, some sites, especially in China are fully blocked off (ex: facebook). I want to make sure that I have multiple forms of communication going on. I might get a SIM card and get cheap prepaid minutes, but who knows! Best contact will be via the web though.
Now, that I am done using this as my distraction from the present, I'm going to distract myself even more by running around town with Abena to take pictures and make memories! WOO WOO!
Next step....figuring out how to put everything I need into a 60 L backpack. Madre Sentisima!
Much love and looking forward to to keeping in touch!!!
